Siilinjärvi municipality is located in Northern Savonia 23 kilometres north from Kuopio, and it is a growing city with 21,500 residents.
The Siilinjärvi municipality was committed to saving 9% of energy by 2016 as stated in the Motiva energy-efficiency agreement.
The aim was to gain substantial savings in electricity and heating costs and to decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 450 tons per year.
How these targets were achieved without the municipality’s own large investments.
Equipment investments and required alterations were implemented in the municipality’s facilities enabling the planned savings.
After the investments and alterations, Caverion will be responsible for the facilities’ energy-savings and the optimisation of energy efficiency, and the company will also give an energy-saving guarantee to the facilities covered by the contract.
In order to improve energy efficiency, the automation of the premises will be modernised, frequency converters will be installed in the ventilation equipment and alterations made to the controls of various systems. Three premises will also undergo heating alterations and transfer to geothermal heating.
